Vertical Jump: Vertical Power Assessment


Maximum Vertical Power: Vertical Jump

Equipment:

· A smooth wall with a ceiling higher than the highest jumper

· A flat floor with good traction

· chalk of a different color than the wall

· Measuring tape


Procedure (Using a Wall and Chalk)

  1. Cover fingertips of athlete’s dominant hand

  2. Have athlete stand with the dominant shoulder 6” from the wall and, both feet flat on the floor, reach as high as possible and mark the wall for a baseline

  3. Have the athlete bring the hand down in a countermovement by flexing the knees jumps and ankles and moving the chest forward and down with arms back. During the jump the dominant arm reach as high as possible making another chalk mark.

  4. The score is the difference between the two marks.

  5. The best of three trials is recorded to the nearest 0.5 inch, or 1cm.
